Steel Homes are more Robust, more Economical and more Useful
We talked with İhsan Büyük, Director of North Steel Homes, about steel houses and the Tiny House concept, which have been gaining popularity both around the world and in Northern Cyprus. We reviewed sample Tiny Houses.
What makes the use of steel in house construction different?
The use of steel structures in house construction is much more advantageous than reinforced concrete structures with many features. However, due to the recent earthquakes in nearby geographies, I would like to talk about earthquake resistance first. First of all, steel structures are much more resistant to earthquakes as they provide flexibility and lightness. I can confidently say that they are the most earthquake-resistant systems. What I mean by the resistance of steel houses is not only that they do not collapse, but also that they are minimally affected by bending.
In addition, it is possible to say that they give 5 - 5.5 times better results with the same economic criteria in terms of heat and sound insulation. The reduction in energy use thanks to thermal insulation helps you to save money in terms of energy consumption. While talking about its advantages, I should also say that since the material we use is recyclable, it can be dismantled whenever you want and converted into scrap and re-produced. In this way, it is also an eco-friendly technology.
“There is no limit in design”

We know that steel houses can be built quite quickly. What would you like to say about this process?
The use of steel reduces the construction process by at least 50% compared to reinforced concrete structures. Even today, if we want, we can reduce this rate up to 100%. Let me put it this way, when you can produce the whole system in a factory like ours, you can also minimize the delays in the construction process.
In concrete building constructions, everything is done one by one. I mean you have to wait for every process and material. For example, there is a curing process you have to wait. You also wait for the materials you need. However, steel structures can be produced according to the project and built quickly, thanks to their modularity.
I want to give an example; we were asked to build steel houses for the Turkish Armed Forces in a short period of time. We delivered a total of 8 residences in 30 days with landscaping. That’s how you can speed up the construction process.

In addition, we can design the dream house of anyone who comes here and is considering buying a house, free of charge. Let me explain the process to you. We start the drawings according to the information given by our customers, and as a result of the corrections, we design the house in their minds. In a way, instead of convincing our customers for buying a house, we build the house for them. Since we use steel in structures, we do not have any limits in design. We can design and build a house however you want.
